Gitcoin is using NFTs to fundraise for Web3 projects. The company’s founder, Kevin Owocki, and its DAO Steward, Austin Griffith, revealed they were offering a limited 303-piece NFT collection on the Ethereum blockchain called “Moonshot Bots.”
What Are Moonshot Bots?
Each bot has been designed to look like a pixelated robot, and they vary by name, color, and characteristics. At the time of this writing, Gitcoin has sold more than 196 “Moonshot Bots” NFTs and raised more than $1.82 million for projects.
Raising Money for Web3
To date, Gitcoin has raised $29.2 million for open-source projects and bug bounties. Past Gitcoin-funded crypto projects include The Defiant (decentralized finance publication), MetaMask (crypto wallet), Prysm (testnet), and Uniswap (decentralized exchange).
Owocki and Griffith didn’t expect to raise this much money. Their original goal was $50,000. Owocki credits engagement on Twitter and other social platforms for the NFT fundraiser’s success.
“Moonshot Bots” are available for purchase via Ethereum by members of the public. Owocki hopes to use the NFT sales and fundraising learning experience to develop other funding options for the future.
